The 17-year-old reality star joined his sister Savannah on her podcast Unlocked to discuss their feelings about their parent’s prison sentences. Todd and Julie Christley are five months into their sentences on account of tax fraud charges. Grayson said that his parent’s situation being away is worse than their possible deaths.
“To me, it’s worse than them dying,” Grayson told his sister, “Because they’re here, but they’re not here. So, it’s just time that’s being wasted. I’m saying, like, if they died, there’s no possibility of you getting any more time with them. So, it’s over.”
Savannah, 25, has taken custody of her 17-year-old brother and her 10-year-old niece following the arrest of their parents. On the podcast, the siblings discussed their efforts to see their parents as much as possible. Currently, Todd is serving 12 years in Florida and Julie is serving seven years in Kentucky.
Grayson said that while he feels guilty about not going to visit his parents, he knows that they understand his wanting to go out and live his life as a 17-year-old. According to Today, Grayson feels bitter about having to cope with this new adjustment to his life.
“There is always going to be a part of you that is bitter,” he added. “There’s no way around it. It’s gonna suck for as long as they’re there.”
The sibling duo touched upon another difficult topic, Grayson’s 17th birthday was spent without his parents. “Well, it sucked. It wasn’t the greatest birthday I’ve ever had,” he recalled. “I didn’t expect it to be, though, because, like, Mom and Dad aren’t there. So yeah, it kind of sucked.”
