If you think that you can just say, “no thanks” to negative emotions, think again. What happens to your body when you’re not honest about your feelings?
You still feel
No matter how hard you try to suppress an emotion, it’s still there. You may be able to hide your feelings for a period of time, but eventually they will catch up to you. Tensions will rise, and an emotional explosion may follow. When you have a feeling, instead of pushing it away, let it run its course instead. You will avoid unnecessary drama within your psyche later.
It’s contagious
When we feel internally agitated, you will unconsciously rub off these feelings onto others. If you say you’re fine, but your partner or friend can tell that you’re not, they will, understandably, get tense too because they don’t know what’s going on in your mind.
The thoughts will overpower you
By trying to suppress thoughts, you will create a resistance in your brain, and instead of effectively erasing your thoughts, they will become stronger.
Your body will react in other ways
Some people experience physical discomfort in the form of stomach aches, headaches or exhaustion. This increased stress can also manifest itself into more serious problems too, such as high blood pressure and digestive issues.
So do your mind a huge favor, and express how you feel. Your body will thank you for it.
