Adele has always been known for her powerful and emotional music, but her personal life has remained relatively private – until now.
The singer recently opened up about her relationship with her once-estranged father, Mark Evans, who passed away from cancer last year. In an emotional interview with BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs, Adele revealed that she felt “let down” by her father, who left her and her mother when she was just three years old.
“I definitely had a yearning for him, because he didn’t really deliver for me,” she said. “I didn’t really have his attention, he’d say he would come and then he didn’t, and if he did come, we’d only go out for like half an hour and then he’d drop me home.”
Adele decided to cut ties with her father when she was 12 years old after he failed to show up for Father’s Day. However, she recently reconciled with him shortly before he died.
“When I found out that he was ill a few years ago, I got the call and I drove straight there,” she said. “It was hard but it was definitely one of the biggest moments of my life in a good way, when I went to go and see him.”
During their reconciliation, Adele and her father laughed, gossiped, and cried together. “It was great for both of us,” she said.
Despite the reconciliation, Adele revealed that she still struggles with her complicated relationship with her father. “My dad’s absolute lack of presence and effort…But I finally understood that it was the alcohol… It took my dad from me,” she said.
Adele’s story is a reminder that even the most difficult relationships can be repaired. It takes time and effort, but it’s worth it to try to make amends with loved ones before it’s too late.
