UPDATE 08/04/2023: Celine Dion’s sister, Claudette, is giving more insights to the superstar’s physical condition.
“We can’t find any medicine that works, but having hope is important,” Claudette said. “I honestly think that she mostly needs to rest. She always goes above and beyond, she always tries to be the best and top of her game. At one point, your heart and your body are trying to tell you something. It’s important to listen to it.”
Celine is currently being cared for by her other sister, Linda, who has moved into Celine’s home.
“When I call [Celine] and she’s busy, I speak to my sister Linda who lives with her and tells me that she’s working hard. She’s listening to the top researchers of this rare disease as much as possible.”
ORIGINAL ARTICLE: Celine Dion’s sister, Claudette, has given a rare insight to the progression of her battle with SPS, or “Stiff-Person Syndrome”.
SPS results in the partial or total paralysis of the limbs. Celine’s case is marked by muscle spasms, which affect her ability to move and sing.
“We’re all crossing our fingers, and I’m glad people are concerned,” Claudette said, on a Quebec news program. “She is working hard, and we are confident that we will succeed. It can’t be a story like this.”
“This can’t be possible. Heaven made a mistake,” she recalled telling Celine in a conversation. She said Celine replied, “you are going to make me cry.”
Celine was forced to postpone her international tour, citing the advancement of her SPS, but promises fans, “I want you all to know, I’m not giving up… and I can’t wait to see you again!”
There is currently no cure for SPS.
