Reba McEntire has broken her silence on her stepson’s divorce from the American Idol herself, Kelly Clarkson. McEntire was married to Brandon Blackstock’s father Narvel from 1989 to 2015. McEntire has maintained a relationship with her stepson even after the couple separated.
Clarkson first filed for divorce from Blackstock in 2020. Court documents cite irreconcilable differences, and following this announcement Clarkson has waged several allegations against her former husband including that he stole from her.
McEntire spoke with Extra where she gave her comments about her stepson’s current challenge in life.
“You know, I love them [Clarkson and Blackstock],” she explained to Extra. “Brandon’s my stepson, Kelly’s my good friend, and I’m pulling for both of them. I hope they’re happy and healthy and pull though this. I pray that everybody gives them the encouragement that they can because they need it right now, both of them do. I love them both with all my heart.”
Clarkson and Blackstock’s divorce has not yet been finalized. Clarkson has been ordered to pay Brandon $150,000 per month in temporary spousal support and $45,601 per month in child support.
In June earlier this year, Clarkson spoke about her relationship with McEntire on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.
“Not at all. We were friends before Brandon and I got together,” Clarkson said of the fellow Grammy winner, 68.
“We text each other all the time,” she added, noting that they were “both women of sound mind that know that life doesn’t work out sometimes.”
