George Clooney—once a confirmed bachelor—is now a married man with two children, twins Ella and Alexander. While Clooney never expected his life to grow so unexpectedly, he says that he doesn’t miss his time alone.
“That seems like a lifetime ago. Now my house is filled with the warm sounds of babies crying. You should see when my friends show up and see me change a diaper, the laughter that comes from them. I go, ‘I know, I know.’ I’ve given them so much s–t for so many years, I deserve every bit of it.”
Clooney says that his new life with Amal has been transformative. He told the Hollywood Reporter that it, “changes you in every way that every person who’s fallen madly in love changes. Suddenly, the other person’s life becomes more important than your own. I’m sorry I was 50-something when it happened, but only because I could have spent even more time with her.”
While Amal was a certainty in Clooney’s life—as soon as he met her, the people closest to him said they could tell she was the one—children were still an abstract concept. In fact, Clooney said that, “we never talked about it until after we were married, which is funny. There was an assumption that we didn’t want them. And then after the wedding, Amal and I were talking and we just felt like we’d gotten very lucky, both of us, and we should share whatever good luck we’ve got. It would seem self-centered to just have that belong to us.”
Their twins are now six years old; their birthdays passed on June 6th. At the time of the birth, a statement from the couple’s representatives read: “This morning Amal and George welcomed Ella and Alexander Clooney into their lives. Ella, Alexander and Amal are all healthy, happy and doing fine,” the couple said in a statement. “George is sedated and should recover in a few days.”
