4 Easy Ways to Remedy A Bad Hair Day
We’ve all had them. Whether you’re running late and leave the house without blow drying or you’re a victim of humidity, bad hair days can ruin your mood. Stylist Bruce Dean has some helpful tips on what to do to make things better.
Tame the frizz
There are several factors that can cause your hair to get frizzy. The first is moisture. When it gets inside the follicle, it causes the hair to expand. To prevent or help correct this, use a light cream that coats the hair and keeps moisture out of its inner cortex. Hair spray is also useful. Heat can cause frizziness, as well, so apply a thermal protection product before using a blow dryer, curling iron or flat iron.
Fight flat hair
You didn’t get a chance to blow dry, now your hair is flat and limp. What do you do? Be prepared! If you’re rushing out of the house with wet hair, toss a few hair accessories into your bag. That way, when it dries, you can throw it into a quick and attractive up-do. I recommend clips, chop sticks or combs that you can use to pull your hair back on one side. I also really like Goody Spin Pins, which hold a bun in place. You can also try a French braid—it’s a quick option with classic appeal. If there’s room in your purse, toss in a good cream or styling product, as well.
Damaged hair—show it some love
If your hair seems drier or more damaged than usual, get a water filter for your shower if you don’t have one. Hard water can be rough on hair. If your hair has suffered as a results chemical treatments, find a moisturizing or hydrating conditioner, preferably one with keratin. Chemical products weaken the hair and keratin adds back some of its strength and elasticity. Read the ingredient label and make sure keratin is near the top of the list.
Grow it in style
You had a stylish bob, now you’re growing your hair out. My advice is simply to stick with it. It helps to work with a professional who can show you how to style it at each stage of the growth process, that way you’ll be less tempted to give up and cut it short again. Just because your hair is between stages doesn’t mean it has to be a mess. And that’s true for any kind of transition. I once worked with a client who had permed her hair and was letting it grow out straight. It wasn’t always easy for her, but we found ways to make it look cute.

Bad hair days are frustrating because they make us feel less confident. Here are a few tips on how to boost your mood, even on days when you think you look less than “perfectly” coiffed.
Add Sparkle.
If you know you won’t have a lot of time to primp in the morning, plan to wear your favorite earrings or a brightly colored top. It will help you feel put-together.
Keep your energy up.
Eat healthy meals and snacks throughout the day and take a quick break and walk around. That will keep your energy from dropping and make your mood less likely to plummet, as well.
Get the focus off yourself.
One surefire way to make a bad mood worse is to sulk. Strike up a lighthearted conversation with a co-worker to take your mind off how you look—or whatever it is that’s bothering you.
