Father’s Day is rapidly approaching, which means a lot of us are getting ready to celebrate the fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, father figures, and even single moms who’ve helped shape us into the people we are today.
With every tie, power tool, and grill or golf accessory we’ve gifted over the years, we love our fathers more and more. But unfortunately, not all of us have the pleasure of giving a gift to our dad this year. We asked our followers on the WomenWorking Facebook page to let us know what they wished they could’ve said to their fathers while they were still alive. Here are some of the answers we received. While we were not able to use them all, we thank you for your contribution!
I love you…
“Of course I wish I had told my daddy that I loved him every single day. I wish I would have spent more time him. I wish I had not [gone] to work the day he died because I didn’t get to tell him goodbye. And a million other things I should have said and done. I love you daddy.”
Thank you for setting a good example…
“I remember you always said to me, ‘There is no perfect family,’ but as long as there is respect, genuine love and care for each member of that family, it is nearly perfect. Thank you for setting us a good example…”
You were my biggest fan…
“He was my knight in shining armor, my biggest protector and my biggest fan. I wish I had been there at the moment he took his last breath. I wish I had told him how he amazed me with all his knowledge, and I wish I had thanked him for sharing so much of it with me.”
You showed me that having enough is far more important than having it all…
“Although I didn’t understand this when I was 24, looking back I would want to say, “Thank you for showing me that ‘having enough’ is far more important than ‘having it all.’ Even when ‘enough’ feels like ‘very little,’ when we have ‘enough,’ it is our job to make sure that others have ‘enough’ as well.” My father quietly lived this way.”
Thank you for sharing a part of you with me…
“I wanna thank my dad for sharing with me his love of classic rock; he left me an amazing collection of vinyl and some great concert memories. I wanna thank him for all the summer road trips he took us on–I got to see so much of this beautiful country.”
I’m grateful for all the sacrifices you made…
“That I was grateful for all the sacrifices he made for my brother and I, that I heard everything he told me and I follow his guidance, that I loved him more than life and couldn’t have ever asked for a better Dad.”
Thank you for being my dad…
“My step-dad [is] the only dad me and my two sisters have ever known. He hasn’t always been super dad, but he has always been a great dad, and even more so because he didn’t have to be. He chose us as his own and we were better for it!”
