“Guardians of the Galaxy” star Chris Pratt revealed in a 2019 Buzzfeed interview his first major purchase once he got a paycheck. Surprisingly, the purchase was not anything for Pratt, 43; rather, he made the ultimate gesture of gratitude towards his mother as he purchased her a home.
“I was rich for a second, then I was poor,” Pratt explained the situation during the Buzzfeed interview meant to support The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part alongside co-star Tiffany Haddish. The two played a game of firsts where Pratt received the question about his first major purchase made after landing a major role. But Pratt reminded viewers about the most important part of the purchase, “But my mom had a house.”
The “Jurassic World” actor joins a plethora of celebrities who have decided to use their funds to repay their parents, including Cardi B, Pete Davidson, and Michael B. Jordan.
Pratt grew up with hardworking parents, with his mother working at the local Safeway grocery store and his father working as an ex-gold-miner and construction worker. Pratt went through his own housing crisis after dropping out of community college and moving to Hawaii to live in a van on the beach.
But the path to success was laid as Pratt worked at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co, which eventually introduced him to Commando actress Rae Dawn Chong, who would be the one to bring him to Hollywood.
