Lisa Kudrow was very close with Matthew Perry, even writing the foreword for his memoir, ‘Friends, Lovers, and The Big Terrible Thing’.
“Over those years I didn’t really try to intervene or confront him, because the little I knew about addiction was that his sobriety was out of my hands,” she wrote. “And yet, I would have periods of wondering if I was wrong for not doing more, doing something. But I did come to understand that this disease relentlessly fed itself and was determined to keep going. […] He has survived impossible odds, but I had no idea how many times he almost didn’t make it. … I’m glad you’re here, Matty. Good for you. I love you.”
Similarly, Kudrow is supportive of her son, Julian, who she shares with husband, Michael Stern.
Julian grew up on the ‘FRIENDS’ set and even had a guest spot… technically. Kudrow was pregnant with Julian during the season 5 arc where her character, Phoebe, was pregnant with triplets.
Oddly enough, however, Julian didn’t watch ‘FRIENDS’ until recently.
“He called me up and said, ‘So I just watched the first two episodes. It’s really good, Mom. ‘I said, ‘Thanks.’ He said, ‘Can I ask you some questions about that?’ I’m like, ‘Yes!’ I almost started crying. I didn’t think that anyone in my family liked that show. He was 5 when we were finished … but he did start watching when his friends at school started watching. He watched it and he was impressed.”
