John Stamos revealed the cover to his upcoming memoir on Instagram Tuesday. The book is titled, If You Would Have Told Me, and will discuss Stamos’ widespread career and all the “ups and downs” that came with it, including dealing with the death of Bob Saget.
“Everyone has a book in them,” he captioned the post. “‘If You Would Have Told Me’ is mine. I honestly didn’t think I had much to share, certainly not enough to fill a book. But, losing one of my best friends, becoming a father, taking a look back at the ups and downs, highs and lows…maybe there is something in my story that people can connect to. There will be laughs, tears, and some fun filler, just like life.”
Bob Saget died unexpectedly in January of 2022. Stamos and Saget were co-stars on the 90s sitcom, Full House, but their on-screen friendship translated directly into real life.
At Disney’s D23 expo in September last year, Stamos dropped by, talking about the upcoming season 2 of his Disney+ series, Big Shot, as well as spending some time talking about his relationship with Saget while showing various photos and videos of the two hanging out with each other.
“I don’t remember what rides we went on, I don’t remember what we ate, but I do remember the feelings that we felt,” John said of a video of him and Bob at Disneyland. “We had fun, we laughed, we acted like big kids, we felt that easy, unspoken love that happens between grown men dressed in weird pajamas. Winnie the Pooh said, ‘Any day spent with you is my favorite day,’ and every day that I spent with Bob was my favorite day, especially that day at Disneyland.”
John has been very open about his grief over losing Bob, most recently posting a video to Instagram marking the one year anniversary of his death.
“‘The most lost day in our life is the day we don’t laugh’. It’s hard sometimes Bob without you, but we’ll try,” he captioned a video of him and Bob on the set of Full House. “We’ll keep loving and will keep hugging just like you want us to. I can’t believe it’s been a year, time flies when you’re grieving I guess.”
In the video, Stamos and Saget are speaking with the audience in attendance for an episode of Full House, where John says, “What you see up here is really how it is,” adding, “We really love each other.”
As for his upcoming memoir, John discussed more about its content back in September when he announced he would be writing one.
“If You Would Have Told Me is the book I never planned to write,” he said at the time, “but after losing Bob, finally becoming a father, and wanting to honor all the colorful people who have made me who I am today, I figured if not now, when?”
John welcomed his son, Billy, in 2018 with his wife Caitlin McHugh, whom he married that same year.
“It’s also about home, heart, and healing,” he continued. “This book is something between a confession and a challenge to find grace in the smallest moments of our lives. I hope my memoir offers a window into my heart and mind and helps readers find little moments of magic that make life worth living. Get everything you want and live happily ever after, but have the humility to trust in something greater than yourself for guidance.”
If You Would Have Told Me is set to be released on October 24.
