Tensions maybe rising amongst Hollywood’s elites after rumors come out that John Travolta is distancing himself from the controversial Church of Scientology. At a recent gala hosted by Scientologist royalty Tom Cruise, Travolta was noticeably not present. According to RadarOnline, “Tom Cruise made a grand entrance by helicopter, but John — despite being a pilot with his own plane — opted not to come, leaving attendees puzzled.”
One of Travolta’s friends revealed to the news source that the lack of attendance might be part of the actor’s larger efforts to distance himself from the Church. Travolta has been dealt tragic cards with the recent passing of his wife Kelly Preston, and close friend Kristie Alley.
The source told RadarOnline, “Despite [Preston and Alley’s] devout following of Scientology, it tragically didn’t save them.”
The Grease star first joined the controversial church back in 1975 but the recent death of his wife has been believed to be a point of tension regarding Travolta’s devotion to the church. Neither Travolta nor the Church made a comment about his lack of appearance at Cruise’s gala.
Preston died in July 2020 after a long battle with cancer. Travolta broke news of her death on social media. “It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly has lost her two-year battle with breast cancer. She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many,” his heartbreaking message read.
“Kelly’s love and life will always be remembered,” the Grease star continued.”I will be taking some time to be there for my children who have lost their mother, so forgive me in advance if you don’t hear from us for a while. But please know that I will feel your outpouring of love in the weeks and months ahead as we heal. All my love, JT.”
