Ahead of her 10th anniversary with her husband, Nmandi Asomaugha, Kerry Washington is remembering her “secret” wedding.
“Do you remember how secret my wedding was? How private and secret it was? That’s how the anniversary is going to be too,” she told ET.
Washington, 46, is notoriously private about her personal life with her husband and three children; 8-year-old Isabelle, 6-year-old Caleb, and Asomaugha’s 17-year-old from a previous relationship.
The couple rarely speak about each other or are seen together publicly. About this, Washington has said, “Earlier in my career I was much more super-sharey,” Washington said. “There were moments when I wanted to process things that were happening to me more privately, and I didn’t have the space to do it, because once you let people in, they’re in and you don’t get to say, ‘Oh, I want this for myself.’”
Washington came to fame after her stint as Olivia Pope on Shonda Rhimes’ television drama, “Scandal”. Her character had a reputation as a “fixer”, and Washington says this reputation has rubbed off on her personal life.
“It’s funny because people used to come to me to fix things with my white hat and now people come to me for relationship advice. People, I’m just acting! I don’t know any of this stuff. None of it!”
