Sofia Coppola’s ‘Priscilla’, based on an autobiography by Priscilla Presley, has caused controversy in its depiction of Elvis Presley.
“The intent was surely to make them feel even more different than they were. Even down to the casting, you have this huge man and this tiny girl,” an estate insider claimed. “It felt like someone wanted to grossly misrepresent Elvis and Priscilla and their relationship.”
“The Elvis estate licenses music to many, many projects — from Lilo and Stitch to Nic Cage’s movie ‘Honeymoon in Vegas’,” the insider continued. “The difference here is that they thought this movie is a total hit job by a nepo baby.”
Though the critique is particularly harsh, it does stand that Elvis’ music was not licensed to Coppola’s ‘Priscilla’, meaning somewhere along the lines, a higher-up decided against it, despite large names being attached to the project.
