A person has died after a horrific car accident in Pescadero, California, in which a 22-year-old driver along with two passengers fell 100 feet in the air after the driver failed to slow at an intersection.
The driver was identified as Madeline St. Pierre of Arcata and one passenger was also Arcata resident Elyse Pickart, 22. The San Mateo County Fire Paramedics declared the third passenger, only known to be a man residing in Watsonville, dead at 10:20 p.m.
Officials say that the car landed on its wheels and that due to the high tide of the ocean, it was partially in water. St. Pierre withstood major injuries and was transported to Stanford Medical Center.
Officials said they believe alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in the fatal crash. She was also arrested and charged with one count of vehicular manslaughter and one count of driving under the influence causing injuries to any person.
Whether Pickart withstood any injuries as well isn’t certain but she was taken to the hospital alongside St. Pierre as a precaution.
