Randy Small, 58, and Robert Adair, 70, were next-door-neighbors in a dispute over the ownership of a piece of land where Adair placed a mailbox, when Small ripped the mailbox out of the ground and shot Adair at close range. Small’s brother would report the crime ten hours later.
“You shot him directly in the head at close range, and that resulted in the blowing off of his head. And you left him in that truck,” Circuit Judge Mary Wertz of Brown County, Indiana, told Small in court. “This was a dispute over property.”
Small was found guilty in July and was recently sentenced to sixty years in prison for Adair’s death.
