Meghan Markle is supposedly making her return to the big screen and Kevin Costner is reportedly involved. The film would be the sequel to the iconic “Bodyguard” which featured late global sensation Whitney Houston as well the “Yellowstone” alum.
This new development comes after Costner expressed in 2019 that there were plans for a “Bodyguard 2” which included Costner’s new love interest being the late great Princess of Wales.
According to an interview held between Costner and PeopleTV, Princess Diana and movie producers were eager to start the project when it was beginning to develop. Tragedy struck when the late Princess of Wales was killed in the infamous paparazzi car chase in August 1997.
Costner in his People interview recounted a phone call between himself and the late Princess. “I just remember her being incredibly sweet on the phone, and she asked the question, she goes, ‘Are we going to have like a kissing scene?’ She said it in a very respectful way,” the actor said. “She was nervous because her life was very governed. And I said, ‘Yeah, there’s going to be a little bit of that, but we can make that okay too.’ ”
The new development about the possible royal cameo has now been flipped as Costner has reportedly suggested that Meghan Markle take the role. According to Maire Claire, a UK-based website, a source close to Costner said, “The only thing Kevin loves more than an underdog like Meghan is a box office hit.”
However Costner has spoken out against Markle’s return to the big screen. In 2019, Insider reported on an interview that Costner had on a British talk-show where he made comments about how Prince Harry might feel about Markle’s return to acting.
“Because if you’re Harry — and he seems like a great guy … It’s like, that’s why I’m not married to an actress. I don’t want to see my wife kissing somebody. I’m on Harry’s side,” Costner said.
