Wade Robson is taking his molestation accusations against Michael Jackson to a Californian court of appeal. Robson alleges that from when he was seven to fourteen Jackson abused him at the Neverland Ranch. The legal team Robson is going up against representing the MJJ production team says that they were not liable as they ‘weren’t able to control the late pop star.’
Reports came out in April 2021 that Michael Jackson’s estate team beat the charges Robson first brought against them. In 2017 the case for first thrown out after it was found that Robson filed the charges outside of the states’ statute of limitation for child sexual abuse claims. However, the case was revived in 2020 after the statute of limitation for sensitive cases was extended.
Robson’s lawyer made a comment to the Hollywood Reporter in 2021 regarding the plan or appeal.
“This decision of Judge Mark A. Young suffers from the same fatal flaws as the prior decision of prior Judge Mitchell Beckloff, which we were able to overturn on appeal…’For this reason, we will be appealing it to the Court of Appeal, and to the Supreme Court if necessary. If allowed to stand, the decision would set a dangerous precedent that would leave thousands of children working in the entertainment industry vulnerable to sexual abuse by persons in places of power.”
In November 2003 Jackson was arrested after his ranch and was indicted on 10 counts including lewd conduct with a minor, conspiracy to commit child abduction, false imprisonment, and extortion. The case went public garnering much media attention and featuring over 130 witnesses including Robson. Ultimately, Jackson was found not guilty in June 2005.
Robson claims that when he first testified was manipulated into lying on behalf of Jackson during the trial.
