UPDATE 07/13/2023: Connor Cruise was recently photographed in New York City, as he visited in support of his father, Tom’s, press tour for the newest installment in the ‘Mission: Impossible’ franchise.
Tom led the pack, as Connor and his aunt, Tom’s sister and assistant, Lee Ann, followed close behind. Connor and his sister, Isabella, are notoriously private individuals, but Connor has been more visible on social media as of late, posting pictures from a recent, successful fishing trip.
Though generally connected to Tom, Connor says that he has a great relationship with his mother, Nicole Kidman, as well.
“I love my mum. I don’t care what people say, I know that me and mom are solid. I love her a lot.”
ORIGINAL ARTICLE: Nicole Kidman has a great relationship with her youngest kids, Sunday and Faith, whom she shares with her husband of 17 years, Keith Urban. But her oldest children, Connor and Bella, whom she adopted while married to Tom Cruise, have a much different relationship with their mother.
Nicole and Tom were married for 11 years before divorcing in 2001. The former couple adopted their children in 1992 and 1995, but Nicole’s part in raising them diminished once they finalized their divorce.
A main reason for this, according to Kidman, is because Bella and Connor took up their father’s religion of Scientology, saying in 2018, “They have made the choice to be Scientologists and as a mother, it’s my job to love them.”
“And I am an example of that tolerance and that’s what I believe — that no matter what your child does, the child has love and the child has to know there is available love and I’m open here,” she added. “I think that’s so important because if that is taken away from a child, to sever that in any child, in any relationship, in any family — I believe it’s wrong. So that’s our job as a parent, to always offer unconditional love.”
But Cruise’s standpoint on incorporating Nicole into their children’s lives is a little different, seeing as though she wasn’t in attendance for either of their weddings, and was even specifically not invited to her son’s wedding in 2019.
According to a source for RadarOnline, regarding Nicole’s non-invitation to Connor’s wedding, “Tom is behind this and what he wants is as good as law. Tom made the call and Connor followed.”
“First, Tom would never even consider inviting Nicole to Connor’s wedding because she’s considered a ‘suppressive person’ by the church,” the source added, “and, second, he doesn’t want her there. Tom turned his back on Nicole a long time ago and he’s never looked back.”
Bella and Connor’s relationship with their father is especially strong because of the devotion to the Church of Scientology.
Per an insider for People, “Connor and Isabella grew up in the church of Scientology, they’ve been members since they were kids,” and are “completely dedicated scientologists just like Tom.”
The source added, “Connor has been able to remain close with Tom because of Scientology.”
While neither Tom nor Nicole attended Bella’s wedding in 2015, they both played a part in it. Tom helped pay for the ceremony while Nicole helped plan it, even sitting down with Bella and her husband, Max.
Hopefully one day, Nicole could somewhat reunite with her oldest children, despite their differences in religion, with Nicole being a devoted Catholic. It’s sad to see any belief system working as a tool of separation and resentment, but maybe they could eventually look past these and learn to be a family once again.
