Nowadays, it’s hard not to feel stressed. Especially with a worldwide pandemic, the responsibilities we take on in our professional, personal, and social lives can get to be overwhelming at times. If constantly feeling stressed is starting to make you feel unmotivated, tired, and disillusioned, then you may be on the road to burnout— emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress.
Here are some tell-tale signs that you may be on the verge of burning out:
1. You’re irritated… by everything.
Things that never used to bother you now seem to get angrier than ever before. You feel out of control of your temper, and immature for allowing such small things to upset you. It’s almost like you’re brain can’t take it anymore.
2. You’re Exhausted.
In your downtime, you’re usually pretty active, but lately, you can’t seem to find the energy to do anything. On the weekends, all you can manage is to sleep, because even socializing feels draining. But no matter how much sleep you get, you can never seem to feel well rested.
3. You’re apathetic towards your work.
The things that used to motivate you and drive you in your work just don’t seem to have the same effect on you anymore. You’ve accepted that work is just your life, and you just don’t care anymore.
4. You’re indecisive
Making decisions as small as what to eat for dinner feel impossible. You’re tired of thinking and just can’t seem to make up your mind about anything anymore.
5. You’re calling out sick more
You used to rarely get sick, but now you feel under the weather almost all the time. Even at work, your energy levels feel drained, and you feel like you’re on the verge of a cold. Especially if you’re finding that you’re skipping work to rest, there’s a good chance you’re burnt out.
6. You’re not eating as much
In the early stages of burnout, you may find yourself skipping meals or not being as hungry when you should be. As you continue to drain yourself, this occasional “skipping lunch” may evolve into an entire loss of appetite altogether.
7. You’re breaking out
By now, many people know the correlations between stress and poor skin. Especially if you’re not prone to acne but suddenly start noticing skin troubles, it may be a sign that your body is taking on too much stress and needs a break.
8. You’re unable to focus
It feels like it takes more energy and strength to really focus your attention. You used to always be able to dive right into your work, but now you struggle to even listen to conversations. You’re making mistakes here and there, and just can’t seem to keep a grip on things anymore.
9. You’re crying on your commute
If you find that you dread going to office, and are constantly in tears on your way to and from work, these signs are usually good indicators that your burning out.
10. You’re constantly anxious
If you’re on the brink of burnout, you’ll probably have a hard time relaxing and settling down. You’re always on edge, and it’s EXHAUSTING, but you can’t seem to stop yourself and calm down. You’re constantly finding yourself in a state of anxiety and heightened alert, but all you want to do is sleep.
