Raquel Welch married her high school sweetheart, James Welch, in 1959, when she was 19 years old. The same year, Raquel would have her firstborn child, Damon. In 1961, her daughter Latanne “Tahnee” was born. At this point, the future superstar lived a very average life for the era.
“Jim and I were just settling into an apartment together and tackling the realities of married life: he was looking for a job, and I was calling my mother ten times a day for recipes and tips on cleaning products,” she wrote, in her memoir, “Beyond the Cleavage”.
The two separated in 1962 and divorced in 1964. Welch would keep her ex-husband’s last name, as she began a career in Hollywood.
Her children, who are now 63 and 61 years old, respectively, have each created their own careers in Hollywood.
Damon and Tahnee’s careers both began alongside their mother, playing roles in her 1971 film, The Beloved. After that, Damon went on to attend Boston University and study media. He often attended awards shows with his mother throughout the 1980s. In 1991, he married Rebecca Trueman, daughter of cricketer, Fred Trueman. They remained married for 15 months.
Supposedly, Welch caused a stir at the wedding, by wearing a tight dress that was deemed “inappropriate” by media outlets. Trueman, later, decided to comment her perspective.
“She was trying to respect English tradition and tried to wear an English dress and jacket ensemble,” Rebecca Trueman said. “I actually thought she looked very stylish and beautiful on the day,” she added. “But of course everyone just picked up on her most famous asset – her chest – which was revealed when she removed the jacket for the reception.”
Tahnee—who looks notably like her mother—began a career acting and modelling, after leaving school at 16. She played Kitty in Ron Howard’s Cocoon and the sequel. Tahnee posed for magazines, such a Vogue, GQ, and Playboy.
Welch had no grandchildren.
