UPDATE 03/22/2023:
Riley Keough is expressing frustration over the ongoing legal drama that involves her family, both with Lisa Marie’s estate and the question of custody over her half-sisters, Harper and Finley Lockwood.
A source close to Riley told ET that, “the family drama is the last thing Riley wants to be dealing with” adding that she is “deeply upset at how things are unfolding.”
Regarding her sisters, the source says, “she hopes to still be a huge part of Harper and Finley’s lives.”
Following the death of her mother, Lisa Marie Presley, a number of legal battles have ensued.
Lisa’s mother, Priscilla, had filed a petition against a 2016 amendment made to Lisa’s estate that removed her as co-trustee. The amendment then names Riley and her late brother Benjamin, who died in 2020, as co-trustees. With Benjamin gone, the will left Riley as the sole heir.
On top of this, Lisa and her ex husband, Michael Lockwood, were engaged in a messy custody battle over their twin daughters, Harper and Finley. With their divorce finalized in 2021, they were fighting for custody until her death this past January.
Earlier this month, Lockwood filed a petition to serve as guardian ad litem to his daughters amid the upcoming court hearings where Lisa’s estate will be disputed. Shortly after his filing, Lisa Marie’s attorney, Gary Fishbein asked to dismiss the case, seeing as though the odds were greatly in Lockwood’s favor since he is the only surviving parent of the girls.
With all these legal issues at hand at a time where I’m sure most of the Presley family would like to privately mourn their beloved Lisa Marie, a second source tells ET that “Riley is hopeful everything in her family will work out.”
As do we all.
ORIGINAL ARTICLE: A source close to the Presley family has told ET that Riley Keough “is disappointed” that Priscilla Presley is contesting “her mom’s wishes”.
Priscilla Presley—mother to the late Lisa Marie Presley and grandmother to estate trustee, Riley Keough—his contesting the clause which appointed Keough as trustee to the Presley estate, claiming that the validity of the appointment is in question. A 2016 addendum, which removed Presley as a trustee, misspelled Priscilla name and was supposedly added without Presley’s consent or notification. Following, Presley is fighting to have her control reinstated.
“It has been a very tense and heartbreaking few weeks for both Riley and Priscilla,” the source said. “Riley has been mourning the loss of her mother and is heartbroken to have to deal with a trust dispute with a family member. Priscilla is adamant that she has a valid case and that she will prevail in court. Riley and Priscilla aren’t communicating at this time, but have been in communication through lawyers.”
The source continued, claiming that, “they are both gearing up for court, [but] Riley would prefer to settle this dispute privately.”
Keough, who is currently filming her new series, Daisy Jones and the Six, has been notably hush about the brewing family quarrel. Keough announced the birth of her first child, a daughter, shortly after her mother’s death.
Sources have also been highlighting the strained relationship between Priscilla and Lisa Marie leading up to this point, saying, “Lisa Marie was struggling, and it definitely put a strain on her relationship with her mother. Lisa Marie always felt Priscilla was trying to have control over her.”
