Robert De Niro joined his eldest daughter Drena in honoring the lost life of his grandson Leandro “Leo” De Niro-Rodriguez who died at the age of 19 after taking fentanyl-laced pills. The wake took place at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel in Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Robert and daughter, Drena, announced the death of the 19 year old on Monday, July 3.
She shared an instagram picture of her and her son with the caption, ‘My beautiful sweet angel. I have loved you beyond words or description from the moment I felt you in my belly. You have been my joy, my heart and all that was ever pure and real in my life. I wish I was with you right now. I wish I was with you.’
De Niro broke his silence on the matter early in July, sharing a statement with HollywoodLife. “I’m deeply distressed by the passing of my beloved grandson Leo…[Robert and Drena] greatly appreciative of the condolences from everyone. We ask that we please be given privacy to grieve our loss of Leo.”
Drena also had her own statement regarding the tragedy. “It is with immeasurable shock and sadness that we say goodbye to our beloved son Leo. We thank you for the outpouring of love and support and ask that we are given privacy at this time to process this inconsolable grief,” she said.
