UPDATE 06/27/2023: Stop the presses! Ryan Seacrest has been chosen as the next host of ‘Wheel of Fortune’.
Seacrest was a front-runner for this position, beating out tenured names like Vanna White and Maggie Sajak, as well as other A-List hopefuls, like Whoopi Goldberg.
A statement posted to his Instagram read in part: “Many people probably don’t know this but one of my first jobs was hosting a little game show called Click for Merv Griffin 25 years ago so this is truly a full circle moment for me and I’m grateful to Sony for the opportunity. I can’t wait to continue the tradition of spinning the wheel and working alongside the great Vanna White.”
ORIGINAL ARTICLE: Wheel of Fortune could be gaining a new host and one of the main front runners is a man who needs little introduction. Ryan Seacrest is reportedly being offered the position as host for a whopping 28 million dollars. Radaronline.com reported on this huge payday number based off information from a source close to Seacrest.
Assuming that Seacrest keeps his position as American Idol host his combined earnings could easily make him one of the highest-paid TV personalities as his Idol paycheck comes out to 12 million a year alone. He would be taking this title from fellow TV personality Dr. Phil.
The current and longstanding host Pat Sajak announced that he would be stepping away from his notable position after 41 seasons. “Well, the time has come,” Sajak said. “I’ve decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last. It’s been a wonderful ride, and I’ll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to you all.”
Ryan Seacrest announced his departure from Live with Kelly and Ryan earlier this year, after hosting the show for six years. Mark Consuelos was announced as his replacement.
On one of his final episodes, Seacrest said, “I want you all to know, it’s not lost on me how fortunate I am. Fortunate to have had this seat next to you, Kel, for six years. You’re incomparable. There’s no one like you,” he said during his April departure. “I’ve spent my entire career talking… but today, it’s hard to put into words how deeply I’ve appreciated being here and being with you, being invited into your homes every day to try to deliver a smile or a laugh or two. I’m honored to be a part of this family.”
