Savannah Guthrie proved her relatability after documenting her frantic journey to the TODAY show studio on Thursday after accidentally oversleeping.
The broadcast journalist arrived at the TODAY show with 20 minutes to spare. She shared her experience on her Instagram Story, revealing that she “overslept big time.”
The TODAY show airs live at 7 a.m. ET, and she was still in the car at 6:34 a.m.
She made it into the hair and makeup chair by 6:40 a.m., and according to her Story, walked into the studio at 6:54 a.m.
Her co-host Craig Melvin described her timing as “amazing.” Later on, during the show, he joked: “Savannah Guthrie rolled in about 15 minutes ago. She overslept! She is normal!”
“15 minutes ago with no hair, no makeup. It was a terrifying sight, but some miracle workers upstairs rolled me in, and I’m very happy to be here,” Guthrie told Melvin, who then added: “We’re very happy to have you.”
The show later showed “video proof” of Guthrie walking into work late. “You know what’s crazy about that. That wasn’t even an hour ago. That was 35 minutes ago,” Guthrie said. “No hair, no makeup — just a big ole mess. Rolling in hot!”
This isn’t Guthrie’s first relatable moment on the TODAY show.
In March of this year, she hosted the show while wearing fuzzy grey slippers after spraining her toe the day before.
She explained: “I think I broke it. I stubbed it so hard, it might be broken. We literally taped it ourselves. It just hurts to walk. I can sit and stand but can’t walk.”
After the show, Guthrie shared a photo on her Instagram account with the caption: “Sprained toe silver lining — doing the show in slippers. I may never go back.”
The TODAY show airs weekdays at 7 a.m. on NBC.
