It’s been a rollercoaster ride for Shannen Doherty and Kurt Iswarienko’s relationship. The couple, who tied the knot in October 2011, have been in the public eye for years, and their recent divorce announcement has left many fans shocked and saddened. According to court documents obtained by RadarOnline, Iswarienko has responded to the divorce and has not agreed to pay monthly spousal support, which Doherty has requested.
Doherty, who has been battling cancer for years, filed for divorce in April 2023, citing irreconcilable differences. Iswarienko has filed his response to the divorce, listing the same date of marriage but a different date of separation than Doherty — “to be determined.” He has agreed that “irreconcilable differences” have arisen, which prevent any chance of reconciliation.
This isn’t the first time the couple has faced relationship troubles. In 2015, Doherty was diagnosed with breast cancer, which later spread to her lymph nodes. Months later, doctors performed a single mastectomy. Doherty announced she was in remission in 2017, but her cancer returned in 2020 and has been an ongoing battle ever since.
Throughout her cancer treatments, Doherty has credited her husband for being by her side. However, sources close to the star have said that the divorce has taken a toll on her cancer battle.
Doherty’s rep, Leslie Sloane, released a statement about the divorce, saying, “Divorce is the last thing Shannen wanted. Unfortunately, she felt she was left with no other option.”
Iswarienko has asked the court to rule on the matter of spousal support later, but did not specify whether he wished to be awarded support or if Doherty should be.
The divorce announcement comes one month after Doherty told fans she was “feeling great” at a Charmed panel. The actress has spent the last few years dealing with ongoing treatments for stage 4 breast cancer, and has made a point to share all of the good, bad, and ugly of her cancer treatments since announcing in 2020 that the disease had come back the year prior.
