Cher is remembering her dear friend, Tina Turner, after her passing. Cher and Tina were both music icons during the 1980’s and met even earlier, while Tina was still in an abusive marriage with her previous husband, Ike Turner.
The pair came together to duet the song, “Shame, Shame, Shame.” Now, Cher remembers how her last visits to Tina “made her happy”.
“I started going to visit her because I thought, ‘I need to put this time into our friendship, so she knows we haven’t forgotten her,'” Cher said.
“[Tina] said, ‘I can’t spend too much time. Then five hours later we were laughing like crazy…She was having a good time in spite of the fact that she was really sick and not wanting people to know about it.”
Though Tina was in high spirits, Cher shared that, “she told me once, she said, ‘I’m really ready. I just don’t want to put up with this anymore,’” Cher shared.
Besides a lifetime of memories, Cher will have a keepsake to remember Tina by:
“She gave me a pair of shoes the last time I saw her. What kind of shoes? Tina Turner shoes! The big high heels that she just [walked] around in like they were nothing.”
Cher has long been an outspoken fan of her friend, who she said, “might not have won every battle, but she fought every war. She was there fighting for all the things she believed in. She’s one of the great artists of our generation in rock and roll. There was no other person like her.”
