Toby Keith has some good news for fans. The country singer spoke with People where he revealed that his battle with cancer seems to leaning in his favor with high hopes of hitting the stage soon.
Keith, 61, was diagnosed with stomach cancer one year ago and subsequently had to cancel the tour he was currently performing. Keith revealed in a post on Instagram that he’d been diagnosed with stomach cancer saying, “I’ve spent the last six months receiving chemo, radiation, and surgery, so far, so good. I need time to breathe, recover and relax.”
The “Red Solo Cup” singer gave the good news during an interview with The Oklahoman at an event coming before his return to his annual Toby Keith & Friends Golf Tournament. Keith expressed his willingness to return to performing and his future plans to do so.
“I’m feeling pretty good,” Keith said, “You never know with cancer, so you have to prepare.”
“I’ve got more wind,” he told the outlet. “And I’m thinking about bringing the band in and setting up, playing two or three days somewhere just to see if I can get through two hours.” Later adding, “All I gotta do is see if I can get through two or three nights of work and get a little break in this chemo, and we’ll go back to work.”
According to Keith, his chemotherapy seems to be working as his blood tests have been improving along with his tumor had shrunk by a third. Last December Keith provided another update about his battle. He spoke publicly saying, “I need a little bit of time to just rest up and heal up. It’s pretty debilitating to have to go through all that, but as long as everything stays hunky-dory, then we’ll look at something good in the future.”
