While most of us are still in quarantine, it might feel like ideas for what to do are running short. This is a perfect time to safely redecorate your home and finish those projects you’ve been wanting to do forever. You don’t have to spend “an arm and a leg” buying all new things to look like you have a whole new space. Here is some simple idea’s to transform your home without breaking the bank:
Paint an accent wall
A simple way to transform your space is to get a color you love and paint one wall. Contrary to the belief it will close in a space, a black accent wall will create depth and will make a wall look infinite. Bright colors can make your space have a tropical and vibrant feel no matter where you are. If you’re not sure what color to do pick the color that you see the most in the room and go with that. Maybe even try a chalkboard paint wall in your kitchen!
Peel & Stick Wallpaper
Do you remember when wallpaper used to feel old and you would only see it in your Grandmother’s house? Well, it’s back and better than ever. Now many sites sell “Peel and stick wallpaper” that comes to you in sheets. Not only is it simple to put on your wall, but it is also easily removable as well (Great for renters). Give any room a brand new feel with a pattern or print you connect with.
Redecorate your bookshelf by color
This was a bookshelf in my apartment after I decided to redecorate it one night. Before all the books were standing straight up and were all different colors and heights. I decided to flip some sideways, put in some souvenirs and paintings, and organize the shelves by color. I was pleasantly surprised by what a difference it made in making the bookshelf look stylish and neat.
Color organize your closet
Color organize your clothes, bags, and shoes. I promise you’ll love looking at it once you’re done. The best way to remember the color order that is most aesthetically pleasing to the eye is by the ROYGBIV rule:
- Red
- Orange
- Yellow
- Green
- Blue
- Indigo
- Violet
Repurpose old furniture
I got the idea after my boyfriend and I didn’t know what to do with an old piece of wood-stained furniture. It just didn’t fit our color scheme anymore. I remembered we had some white paint leftover under the sink and in a few hours it looked like a brand new piece of furniture. Paint an old desk, a dresser, or a tabletop a brand new color and you will feel like you have updated pieces.
Finally, put some plants in your home!
You can make it a fun project to order some soil, seeds, and pots that you feel fit your home’s aesthetic. Get them planted, watered, and put them in sunny areas for the best results. Before you know it you’ll have some beautiful plants surrounding you in your home.
Get new pillow covers and throw blankets
I managed to make my living room look entirely different after a few minor tweaks. I measured my pillows and ordered four new cases for under $20. I also found a different colored blanket and now I feel like my living room could be the cover of Architectural Digest. You’d be surprised what changing a few covers, sheets, or accent rugs can do to your space.
