A new AI model called ‘life2vec’ uses data to estimate the length of an individual’s life… with 78% accuracy!
‘life2vec’ used data from the Danish population in 2016, including location, health information, and finances. It then was asked to estimate which people were still alive four years later, in 2020. More than 3/4 of the time, it was correct.
“Even though we’re using prediction to evaluate how good these models are, the tool shouldn’t be used for prediction on real people,” says Tina Eliassi-Rad, Northeastern University professor and computer scientist. “It is a prediction model based on a specific data set of a specific population.”
