Will Smith is finally breaking his silence on the ongoing confessions made by his wife Jada Pinkett Smith. Following the release of her tell-all memoir Worthy, Pinkett Smith has gone into the nitty-gritty details about her at times tumultuous relationship with ‘The Fresh Prince’ himself. The couple met on set of the ‘The Fresh Prince’ and married in 1997. They share three children; Willow, 22, Jaden, 25, and Trey, 30, who Smith had with his ex-wife Sheree Zampino.
A bombshell came out when Pinkett Smith had an appearance on Today with Hoda Kotb where Pinkett Smith revealed that ever since 2016 her and Smith have been living ‘completely separate lives.’
She revealed, “By the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying. I think we were both kind of just still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be.”
In 2022 an infamous altercation occurred between Smith, Pinkett Smith and comedian Chris Rock during the annual Oscar’s ceremony. After Rock made a joke about Pinkett Smith’s appearance, Will Smith stormed the stage and slapped Rock across the face on live TV. While the incident left her shaken, Pinkett Smith explained the decision to stand by her husband.
“Even though we hadn’t been calling each other husband and wife in a long time, I said, ‘I’m his wife now. We in this.’ That’s just who I am,” she said. “That’s the gift I have to offer, like, ‘Hey, I’m riding with you.’”
But now Smith has a response of his own to Pinkett Smith’s recent revelations. In an email to the New York Times, Smith reveals how Pinkett Smith’s words have impacted his life.
“When you’ve been with someone for more than half of your life,” he wrote, “a sort of emotional blindness sets in, and you can all too easily lose your sensitivity to their hidden nuances and subtle beauties.”
But Pinkett Smith’s reaction might have taken some by surprise. While on a podcast with Jay Shetty, Shetty offered to read out what Will had written out loud. When all was said and done Pinkett said, “That’s beautiful,” she said. “That’s why I can’t divorce that joker.”
